What to Expect in Your First Christian Counseling Session

It's normal to feel a little nervous

Walking into a counseling office for the first time takes courage. Many people wonder what they will be asked, whether they will be judged, or if they will have to talk about things they are not ready to share. At Texas Christian Wellness in Wylie, your first session is designed to be a safe place to breathe, to be heard, and to begin.

Before you arrive

After you schedule, you will receive a brief intake form so your counselor can understand the basics: who you are, what brought you in, and what you hope to gain. If you have questions about insurance, rates, or which counselor might be the best fit, our team can walk you through those before your appointment.

When you walk in

Our office is intentionally calm. You will be greeted, offered a seat, and given a moment to settle. There is no rush. Sessions are typically about 50 minutes, and the room is a private, confidential space.

The first conversation

Your counselor will ask about your story at a pace that feels right for you. Common topics include:

  • What prompted you to reach out now
  • Your current relationships, stress, and support system
  • Any relevant history that helps us understand your context
  • What success might look like for you

You do not have to share everything at once. The first session is mostly about building trust and getting a clear picture of where you are.

How faith fits in

At Texas Christian Wellness, we integrate clinical counseling with Christian values. That means prayer, Scripture, and spiritual conversation are welcome when they matter to you. Your counselor will ask how you would like faith to be part of your care, and we always respect your comfort level.

Before you leave

By the end of the first session, you will usually have a sense of whether the counselor is a good fit and what the next steps might be. You may schedule a follow-up, receive a few initial recommendations, or simply take time to think it over. There is no pressure to commit.
