What is Christian counseling?

Christian counseling is professional mental health counseling offered by clinicians who share and respect your faith. The clinical work is the same evidence-based care you would expect anywhere: assessment, proven methods, measurable goals. What is different is that your spiritual life is welcome in the room, and prayer, Scripture, and questions of faith can be part of the conversation when you want them to be.

Do I have to be a Christian to come here?

No. You are genuinely welcome regardless of what you believe or where you are with faith right now. Our counselors are Christians and that shapes how we care for people, but we do not require or push faith on anyone. You decide whether it is part of your counseling.

What if I'm not sure counseling is right for me?

That is a normal place to start. Many people book a first session simply to talk it through with a professional and see how it feels. There is no obligation to continue, and if we are not the right fit, we will help you think about what might be.

How do I schedule a first appointment?

Use the booking button anywhere on this site, call the office, or send us a note through the contact page. We will confirm a time, send your intake paperwork through our secure client portal, and answer any questions before you arrive.

How soon can I be seen?

Availability changes week to week, and we are open seven days a week by appointment. Reach out and we will tell you the earliest openings that fit your schedule, including evening and weekend times when available.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is mostly listening. Your counselor will ask about what brought you in, what you have already tried, your history, and what you hope changes. Together you will name a starting goal and decide on a rhythm for meeting. You do not need to prepare anything or have the right words ready.

How long is a session and how often will we meet?

Individual sessions are typically 50 minutes. Couples and family sessions may run longer, and session length is confirmed when you schedule. Most people begin weekly or every other week, then space sessions out as things improve.

How long does counseling usually last?

It depends on the concern and your goals. Some people come for a focused season of six to twelve sessions; others stay longer for deeper work such as trauma or long-standing relationship patterns. We review progress with you regularly so you are never guessing about where things stand.

Will you pray with me or use Scripture in session?

Only if you want that. Some clients ask for prayer at the start or end of session, or want Scripture woven into the work. Others prefer to keep the focus clinical. Your counselor will ask about your preference and follow your lead.

Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?

We see clients at our Wylie office and can discuss telehealth options for Texas residents when that is a better fit for your schedule or health. Let us know which you prefer when you reach out.

Do you work with couples who are not married?

Yes. We work with dating, engaged, and married couples, as well as couples in premarital counseling. The focus is communication, trust, conflict, and building a shared direction.

Can we come for premarital counseling?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Premarital work usually covers communication, expectations, money, family of origin, intimacy, and faith practices as a couple. Many churches accept this toward their premarital requirements; check with your pastor about their specific expectations.

Do you see children and teens?

We see adolescents and teens, and we work with parents on how to support them at home. For younger children, contact us and we will talk through whether we are the right fit or help you find a play-therapy specialist.

My spouse will not come. Can counseling still help?

Yes. Individual work can shift how you communicate, set boundaries, and respond to conflict, and that often changes the relationship even when only one person is in the room. Spouses sometimes join later once they see the process is fair and not about assigning blame.

Do you coordinate with pastors, doctors, or psychiatrists?

With your written permission, yes. Coordinated care can be helpful, especially where medication, church leadership support, or medical concerns are involved. Nothing is shared without your consent.

Is counseling confidential?

Yes. What you share in session stays in session. We do not share information with family, employers, or your church without your written permission. Texas law requires a few narrow exceptions, including serious risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, and a valid court order. We explain all of this clearly at your first session.

Should I share health details through this website or chat?

Please do not. Website forms, email, and the chat assistant are not secure channels for protected health information. Share only what is needed to schedule or ask a general question, and save clinical details for your session or our secure client portal.

Will my counseling records be shared with my insurance or employer?

Accepted Answer

Not without your written authorization. If you choose to seek reimbursement, only the minimum necessary information is included. We will walk you through exactly what a claim or superbill would disclose before anything is sent.

How much does a session cost?

Current session rates are listed on our rates page, including reduced-rate options with our LPC-Associates under licensed supervision. If cost is a barrier, tell us and we will talk honestly about options.

Do you accept insurance?

Nicole Rodriguez, MA, LPC is in network with Aetna, Anthem, Ascension (Smart Health), BlueCross and BlueShield, Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna and Evernorth, Curative, Lyra Health, Military OneSource, Optum, Oscar Health, Quest Behavioral Health, and UnitedHealthcare UHC | UBH. Gina Cooper and Kaleigh Mann are self-pay only; Kaleigh can provide a superbill you may submit for out-of-network reimbursement. Please verify your benefits with your plan before your first appointment.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Payment is collected at the time of service. Health Savings Account (HSA) and FSA cards are accepted for all counselors. Gina Cooper also accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, cash, check, Apple Cash, PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle. Kaleigh Mann accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, cash, and check.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

A limited number of sliding-scale spots are available with each counselor. Ask when you reach out and we will let you know what is open and whether you may be eligible.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before your appointment. You can do this yourself in the client portal. No-shows may be charged a fee. Full details are included in the paperwork in the portal.

What if I am in crisis and cannot wait for an appointment?

Accepted Answer

If you or someone you love is in immediate danger, call 911. You can also call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7. We are not a crisis or emergency service, and messages sent through this site are not monitored around the clock.
